The paper discusses the status and characteristics of sexual violence in Korean society. We present the findings we obtained through many counseling cases as well as reproducing the official statistics already published. Nowadays the sexual violence in our society is greatly - on the rise. We note the following findings. First, in contrary to the common misconception, the sexual violence is committed mostly by the acquaintances. 50.8% of the victims aged under 20, especially 13 or younger accounts for 28. 7% of all victims. Along with young ages of the victims, another prominent characteristics of sexual violence in Korea is the enormous mental and health effects and trauma upon the victims. The sexual violence cannot be tolerated as it is any more and there has to be strong measure against this crime through legal and institutional apparatus.
